Set your oven to 350ºF. Put non-stick foil in a 9 x 13-inch pan.

Put butter and semi-sweet chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and heat until they're smooth together.

Dump sugar, eggs, and vanilla into your chocolate mix and whisk it all up. Mix in flour and salt until everything looks good.

Pour half the mix evenly into your lined pan. Pop it in the oven for 20 minutes, then let it sit for another 20.

Throw caramels and heavy cream in a microwave-safe bowl and heat till smooth. Pour this warm gooey stuff over your cooled brownie base and spread it around with an offset spatula.

Warm up your leftover brownie mix in the microwave just a few seconds. Gently spread this over your caramel layer.

Scatter chocolate chips on top of everything. Stick it back in the oven for 20 minutes.

Wait for the brownies to cool all the way down. Stick them in the fridge before you cut them into squares.
