01 -
Heat water until bubbling in a pot, drop in the green tea, and let it cook for about 5 minutes.
02 -
Add your 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and stir. You'll see the water turn deep red. Keep it bubbling for 2 more minutes.
03 -
Toss in your star anise, smashed cardamom pods, and cinnamon stick and let bubble for another minute.
04 -
Turn heat lower and let the tea cook for 20-30 minutes until it's about half as much as when you started, making the color deeper and taste stronger.
05 -
Put in a quarter teaspoon of salt and stir it all together.
06 -
Add your 2 cups of whole milk and turn up the heat until it bubbles. Keep stirring so the milk doesn't burn. The tea will start changing to a pink shade as it heats.
07 -
When your drink shows a lovely pink color, take it off the heat. Pour through a strainer into cups to get rid of spices and tea bits. Add honey or sugar as you like. If you want, sprinkle some crushed nuts on top. Drink it hot!
