DIY Candy Bar Creation (Printable Version)

Gooey caramel meets crunchy cereal and smooth chocolate in these simple treats.

# What You'll Need:

01 - 40 soft caramels at room temp (like Werther's chewy ones)
02 - 12 oz milk chocolate chips
03 - 1 teaspoon vegetable shortening
04 - 3/4 cup puffed rice cereal (such as Rice Krispies)

# Step-by-Step Guide:

01 - Smoosh 2 caramels together into a flat rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. If they're too firm, pop them in the microwave for 5 seconds. Do this with all your caramels and put them aside.
02 - Put your chocolate chips and shortening in a bowl. Melt them using either a double boiler or microwave at half power, making sure to stir often until it's all smooth.
03 - Mix the puffed rice cereal into your melted chocolate until everything's well coated.
04 - Take each caramel rectangle and cover it with the chocolate-cereal mix. Dip them using a fork, then run the bottom across the bowl edge to get rid of extra chocolate.
05 - Lay your chocolate-covered caramels on waxed paper. Let them sit for 1-2 hours so they can firm up before you eat them.
