Toss rice, garlic powder, soy sauce, and sesame oil into a big pot with boiling chicken broth. Drop the heat, cover it, and let it hang out for about 20-25 minutes until soft and the broth is gone.

Let the butter melt in a roomy pan over medium-high. Add the garlic, keep stirring for a minute till it smells awesome. Put the shrimp in, sprinkle over the salt and pepper, and cook each side 2 to 3 minutes till they're cooked and not see-through.

Swap layers of shrimp and your finished rice in a bowl or on a serving plate. Keep going so you get a nice looking stack.

Dig in while it's still hot. If you want, toss in fresh herbs or set out a simple salad or veggies on the side.
