Animal Fries In-N-Out (Printable Version)

Golden fries smothered with gooey cheese, slow-cooked onions, and zingy sauce, all in signature drive-thru fashion.

# What You'll Need:

→ Special Sauce

01 - 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
02 - 1/2 tablespoon chili flakes if you want some heat
03 - 1 tablespoon sugar
04 - 1/2 cup mayo
05 - 2 tablespoons ketchup
06 - 1/2 tablespoon rice or regular white vinegar

→ Fries and Toppings

07 - 1/2 teaspoon salt
08 - 2 onions, chopped small
09 - 2 tablespoons plain butter
10 - 4 slices American cheese or shredded cheddar (just as good)
11 - 1/2 bag frozen fries
12 - 1 tablespoon any mild oil

# Step-by-Step Guide:

01 - Pile those golden onions over your cheesy fries and pour as much sauce as you like on top before digging in.
02 - Lay your cooked fries on a platter, scatter the cheese all over, and put them under the broiler for about 3 to 5 minutes. Take them out when everything's nice and melty.
03 - Get your fries crispy and golden by frying or baking them however the bag says.
04 - Toss mayo, ketchup, vinegar, relish, sugar, and chili flakes (if using) into a bowl. Mix until smooth. Set aside for later.
05 - Heat up butter and oil in a pan on low-medium heat. Add your chopped onions and salt. Stir them now and then. Take your time—let them turn sweet and golden, which takes about 30 minutes. If things are getting too brown fast, turn down the burner.

# Additional Notes:

01 - Keep stirring your onions often so they don’t catch and burn. That helps them brown evenly.
02 - If you’d rather skip the chili flakes, the sauce will taste just like the classic version.
03 - Cheddar works fine instead of American cheese, but using American gives you that classic style.
